Old Castle Oia

Stayed for 1 night, mainly for the sunset view. location is the best and the worst. Best for sunset view and worst for stairs, fair enough. Room 7 seems to be the best privacy. Receptionist or the owner looks very indifference but clearly tell u everything u should know. We offered tips to the porter even he broke part of my suitcase, definitely it is a very difficult job to anyone.

One of the greatest moments in Oia was watching the beautiful sunset from the Old Castle. We chose a room with an infinity pool, and it was absolutely incredible. We really enjoyed having our own private pool. It was also a luxurious experience to enjoy ocean views from the sofa inside the room. We had emailed in advance about help with our luggage and transportation to the airport. They replied promptly and kindly, and everything was arranged smoothly. Thanos was very helpful and friendly — we truly appreciated his warm hospitality.

The hotel claims to have an incredible view, but I think that’s the only thing worth mentioning. It’s a hotel with very poor hygiene and it’s dirty. If you have the chance to stay here, don’t take it — it’s the WORST and DIRTIEST hotel I’ve ever been to!!! Aside from the fact that the entire hotel and rooms smell like pee and filth, I had the most unpleasant experience of my life. I went with my husband for one night. I chose this hotel because I trusted the Instagram photos, and when we arrived, we went straight to the pool in our room without paying much attention to how clean the bedroom was since they told us it was ready. When we went to sleep, I felt something on my head in the middle of the night, but I thought I was dreaming. I got up around 5 a.m. to drink some water, and — surprise! — I had a GIANT COCKROACH STUCK TO MY NECK!!! A cockroach!!! I felt it, immediately threw it to the floor, and ran into the bathroom in fear while my husband spent several minutes trying to kill it because it crawled all over the bed and pillows. Obviously, we couldn’t sleep after that. There’s no one at reception at night — they turn everything off, even the Wi-Fi, because we didn’t have any connection. My husband and I packed our bags, checking every single item of clothing to make sure there weren’t more cockroaches. With the lights on, we finally noticed the sheets had yellow stains — pee stains!!! They were filthy. We ran out of the room and waited at a restaurant until 8–9 a.m. for someone to show up at the front desk so we could leave. It was truly a horrible experience. I understand there are pests everywhere in the world — my husband and I love traveling and exploring new countries — but this had never happened to us before. Seeing the size of the cockroach, the dirty sheets, and the disgusting smell of the hotel made it clear they have no control or hygiene measures in place. You simply can’t enjoy your stay. The hotel’s main pool was also unusable because it was freezing cold and visibly dirty, with no maintenance. I’m sharing this so it doesn’t happen to someone else and so people pay more attention than I did when choosing where to stay. It was a terrible experience, but at least now I’ve learned my lesson.

My wife and I stayed for a night to catch the sunset in a quiet party of Oia. First off, Vlassis is a wonderful host. He went above and beyond in helping us find some traditional Greek foods and providing recommendations on where to go. Also, Muhammad was a lot of help with taking some of our bags on the walk to and from the hotel. Finally, the view from the hotel is all it's cracked up to be. Between the private pools and the sunset, this hotel is worth the stay.
